Philly Trivia - Yo! Whaddaya Know?
My sister sent me that cartoon, which just screams Philly. So I started cruising through Philly blogs and web sites for more. And stumbled upon Johnny Goodtimes - Philadelphia's Quizzo Master & True Man of Leisure.
I never heard of the guy, but apparently those in tune with the Philly bar scene are more clued in. It seems he hosts Quizzo nights at local bars and tourist attractions. He certainly shares many pictures of many happy people in bars.
He's also got a lot of pix in what appears to be an endless quest for the best pizza in town. (Doesn't he know the winner is down the shore at Mack and Mancos in Ocean City?)
He occasionally includes political and sports rants. And supplies a few recommended links. I wonder if the Inquirer's Dan Rubin knows Blinq is one of only a dozen sites on Mr. Goodtimes' elite blog roll? Of course, so is Ripley's Believe It or Not ... not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
And then there's the trivia. Including Super Bowl, Scientologist or Not Scientologist and--my favorite--Nobel Prize Winner...or Porn Star.
Take the Philadelphia True/False Quiz and see if you can pick out the right answers. A few samples:
Jim's Cheese Steaks opened on South Street before Pat's opened on Passyunk. The standout to me is Useless Knowledge. Peruse the fascinating trivia offered. I can pretty much guarantee you will never again call someone a "dork" with a straight face.
In the late 1990's, workers restoring the London home of Philly's Ben Franklin found ten bodies under the house which had apparently been buried while Franklin lived there.
Bill "El Wingador" Simmons is a pharmacist in Center City.
In the 2004-2005 season, Donovan McNabb became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw more than 30 touchdown passes and less than 10 interceptions.
Is Philly great or what?
