Pat Robertson - The Next Donald Trump?

CBN News [photo only]

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the [CIA] covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Don't you just love Pat Robertson? He's the kind of guy who gives Bloggers a reason to live. I'm willing to bet most Americans never heard of Hugo Chavez, much less knew he was the president of Venezuela, until Robertson suggested on television that the U. S. take him out.

Man, that took some serious cojones. And frankly, good old Pat might have something there, Reality-TV-wise. Picture it: a new show called The Dictator. Every week a Conservative Christian host would line up the most heinous foreign despots and say to one of them, "You're a dead man."

The ratings would go through the roof. Right wingnuts would line up for a shot at Guest Hit Man. And what a great way to spotlight some of the world's lesser known tyrants.

You'd have oddsmakers taking skillions of bets. The show's producers--U.S. Assassinations, Inc.--could issue trading cards with stats including number of innocent citizens murdered, amount of government funds looted, size and cost of opulent personal villas ... and of course rankings in Degrees of Evil. Obviously, the CIA would play a major role as creative consultants.

Admittedly, it might be difficult to round up enough bad guys each week. And we'd have to be careful not to confuse Osama with Omarosa. But let's face it, ordinary citizen or despicable despot, we all want our 15 minutes of fame. Or, well, infamy.

It's all there, and it's not really even new -- think of how many times the U.S. tried to assassinate Castro. But just imagine The Dictator, a High Concept reality show brought to you by Halliburton, your local oil cartel and the Christian Right.

Quick, somebody get me the name of a good copyright lawyer before Dick Cheney steals my idea and sells it to Fox.

If Chavez is to feature in the show it should be called The Democratically Elected Leader rather than The Dictator ;)
